School Safety Spotlight Award Received by Katy ISD Officer

Katy ISD has recently honored Officer Nicole Emidy with their 2021 Fourth Quarter Texas School Safety Center Spotlight Award. Emidy was awarded this in the category of Outstanding Individual Service.

Emidy serves as an assistant emergency management coordinator in Katy Independent School District. Her constituents and coworkers have cited that she is always going above and beyond the call of duty, in order to make sure their special needs students are safe and protected in the event of an emergency.

Emidy has created thorough emergency operations plans (EOPs) and standardized safety protocols for protecting the students of Katy ISD. She has been working to create a more inclusive environment for all school staff by educating them on best practices when approaching students with special needs. Her most recent project is recognizing the crucial role that emergency responders play in crisis incidents. In order to do this, she also consistently gathered feedback and consulted with teachers on their best practices for approaching their students.
