Katy ISD Student Becomes Semifinalist in NASA Artemis Moon Pod Essay Contest

It was a big dream of Katy Independent School District student Aditi Gokhale to participate in NASA’s one-week student expedition to the moon. That big dream may quickly become a reality for this creative and hardworking student.

Like many of the students at Adam’s Junior High, Aditi has been learning and studying from home through Katy’s Virtual Academy. However, learning remotely did not hold back the imagination or ambition of this hard-working student to pursue her dream, and earn a spot amongst 155 other semifinalists in the Artemis Moon Pod Essay Content.

Her essay, titled “Enabling the Artemis Missions: Landing a Permanent Supply of Oxygen” delves into the icy outer craters and rims found on the lunar south pole, areas that contain and produce oxygen. Through her research and writing, she said she learned so much about the moon and everything we can gain from further exploring it. She imagines that one day, the moon will be a habitable place that we can explore and expand to.

Gokhale’s essay was one of over 14,000 submissions that were submitted from K-12 students, all around the country. Her essay, along with the other semifinalist essays, will board the Artemis I on its journey around the moon, set to launch in November of this year.

One grand prize winner will be chosen in May. The winner and their family will be awarded a family trip to attend the Artemis I launch at the Kennedy Space Center. Katy ISD is so proud of what Gokhale has been able to achieve in this esteemed essay writing contest.
