Katy ISD: Seeking Feedback on the Possibility of Virtual High School Option for the 2021-2021 School Year
Katy ISD is sending out a survey to parents of 8th-11th grade students to get feedback on whether or not they would like to see their district offer an option for virtual high school, for the 2021-2022 school year.
In their meeting on March 29th, the Katy ISD board of trustees discussed offering their students the option to continue learning from home (via the Katy Virtual Academy), beyond this current school year and into the next.
Katy ISD Superintendent Ken Gregorski mentioned that this was one of the biggest topics that they addressed during this meeting.
Parents and teachers have been asking and patiently waiting to see whether or not the board will be extending the Katy Virtual Academy. Remote and at-home learning has been a viable educational alternative over the last year, though Gregorski believes that all students should be returning back to school in person, sometime next year.
However, high school students in the district have been very successful in this remote learning program, which is why the board decided to survey parents to get their input on extending the option of remote learning.
If parents provide positive feedback on remote education and the board decides to move forward with making Katy Virtual Academy a long-term solution, this virtual high school would not be affiliated with any of Katy ISDs other high school campuses. This would be a separate academic entity, offering online courses for 9th-12th graders, and would have their own graduation and diploma.
The survey is being rolled out now, and district officials report they will have results in the coming weeks.
