Katy ISD to Move Forward with New Virtual High School
After a vote from the ISD leaders on May 17th, Katy ISD will be moving forward with creating a virtual high school ––– pending funding from the state. The decision came as the result of a unanimous vote from the KISD board of trustees.
Superintendent Ken Gregorski expressed that even though KISD has the infrastructure in place to run a high-quality virtual program for their students, there are some concerns about how the school would be funded, if ongoing funding is not provided by the state.
The issue of funding isn’t yet certain, but the current legislative session will be wrapping up on May 31st. At that time, we should have more information on the KISD virtual high school and its basis for funding.
Members of the KISD staff are sitting and waiting patiently to see if the bill passes, in the remaining weeks of this session.
